04.18.2011 Added “snap-shot” picture of the tank to the gallery, fighting agains halimeda ja caulerpa at the moment…
_
14.08.2011 Added Vortech review/comparison to Tunze -video to yellowreef in YouTube. I bought Vortech MP40W and must say that there is product that is not for me. Thumbs up for Tunze. I will get back to this later if I have time.
I have used only kH an Ca tests and now I decided to start testing other values too. I bought magnesium, strontium and iodine tests. Magnesium levels were ok but the tests could not detect any strontium or iodine in the water. Therefore I started add iodine and strontium to aquarium. I have not added these components ever to my aquariums, so lets see what happens. Hopefully the coralline will start grow faster.

30.05.2011 I promised to get back to Marinelife.eu second shipment in couple of days. Now it has been couple of months, but better later than ever, right?
They did not have, again, all animals I wanted, so they replaced some fishes with inverts like tube worms and snails. Too bad that I did not get after all the chameleont tilefish pair. I do not remember exactly all items in the shipment, but all fish survived except Opistognathus aurifrons. It was in good condition but I never saw it after letting it out in the tank. Based on my experience, I recommend Marinelife.eu. Fish are in good condition and customer service is quick and pleasant. However there is two things that could be improve; spoken english, many things was agreed on the phone and there was always this language barrier between us, in Finland a 6th-grader speaks better english than they. I understand that it is a very common to speak bad english in France, but they sell stuff all around europe! The other one is their stock list, it is not up to date although they say it is on their web-page. Otherwise, very good shop.
I bought 6 Chromis viridis, 3 Doryrhamphus janssi and 1 Opistognathus aurifrons from Siniriutta. Again the Opistognathus aurifrons died despite it was in good condition on arrival. Other fish are still alive. I think that I am not going to try to get Opistognathus aurifrons anymore because I have killed already 3 of them (1 DOA from DSL, 1 from Marinelife missing in action, 1 from Siniriutta died in 6 days). I do not know what I am doing wrong with this species and I do not want to kill more of them so I am not buying another one. There should not be any dangerous animals in my tank, for exmaple I have there 6 Doryrhamphus janssi doing just fine! I mean that those fish are so small and slow that any predator could eat em. My theory to my Opistognathus aurifrons failures is that fish did not find a burrow and died in stress and hunger. If I get one Opistognathus aurifrons some day. I will instal PVC pipes to sandbed and release the fish directly into pipe.

21.04.2011 Second box from Marinelife.eu arrived yesterday. They did not have all animals I wanted but they sent some interesting replacement animals. I will get back to this order later (in couple of days).
Added new picture of the aquarium to “main page”.
Added new pictures to gallery.

12.04.2011 Yellowreef is now up to date!
New animals from Marinelife.eu are not coming tomorrow, because they do not have all animals of the order. It possible that there will be changes to order because some animals I ordered are hard to get. We agreed to try again next week.
Added an entry to CURRENT PROJECTS.

10.04.2011 Added CURRENT PROJECTS. I will update there current problems and projects I am solving/doing with the aquarium.
_
09.04.2011 Yellowreef updated, all info is up to date. Some animals are coming next week, but I added those already to lists.
New section HUSBANDRY added. There you can find all things I do to keep yellowreef running.
New pictures and videos coming next week after new animals arrive on Wednesday, so stay tuned. I will then also update the front page.
_
06.04.2011 Marinelife.eu did not have all animals I ordered, so they sent half now and half next week without extra shipping charge. That means they are for me the first european marine animal seller that values a customer. Their customer service has been very active, so if the next shipment goes as smooth as this one, I will definately buy from there next time I need marine animals.
All animals were active, well-fed and in good shape. Unfortunately one fish was dead, but Marinelife will send new one with the rest of the animals.
So these are doing what ever they do in my tank right now:
1 x Bispira sp. jaune rare
2 x Oxymonacanthus longirostris
1 x Opistognathus aurifrons
1 x Acropora secale grand
1 x Nudibranche Elysia Crispata
1 x Polycarpa Aurata
1 x Etoile de mer Ophiocoma nereidina
1 x Strombus Luhuanus
These are coming next week:
2 x Hoplolatilus chlupatyi
1 x Ptereleotris grammica
1 x Gunnellichthys curiosus
1 x Ptereleotris hanae
1 x Serranocirrhitus latus petit
1 x Synchiropus stellatus petit
1 x Nudibranche Chelidonura varians
I must say that the tunicate (Aurata) is AWESOME! I bought one, but they sent 2 with different colors.
Some pictures in gallery.
Yellowreef update is postponed by one week, because I get the rest of the animals next week!

02.04.2011 I bought fish and corals from directsealife.com and everything went wrong with the shipping. TNT failed to deliver the box in time, so almost everything died. The shopkeeper told me that DLS has huge problems with TNT-shipping company, so I decided to order next box from somewhere else.
Now new delivery is coming next week from marinelife.eu. I have not bought anything from there, so I hope everything goes well. This is the list of animals coming:
1 x Ptereleotris grammica
1 x Gunnellichthys curiosus
1 x Ptereleotris hanae
1 x Bispira sp. jaune rare
2 x Oxymonacanthus longirostris
1 x Opistognathus aurifrons
1 x Synchiropus stellatus petit
1 x Nudibranche Chelidonura varians
1 x Acropora secale grand
1 x Nudibranche Elysia Crispata
1 x Polycarpa Aurata
1 x Etoile de mer Ophiocoma nereidina
2 x Hoplolatilus chlupatyi
1 x Serranocirrhitus latus petit
1 x Strombus Luhuanus
So, if this delivery goes well and there is no major casualties, I will finaly update yellowreef-homepage. All that I can now say is that there has been some changes in yellowreef husbadry and corals are growing fast. In fact so fast that I have frag most of them soon.
Stay tuned for updates!

07.01.2011 From the ashes of yellowreef rises new more beautiful ja better reef. Its beauty is unmatched and… OK, who am I kidding, I just try salvage and save as much as I can.
I combined both tanks, main tank and spawning pool. Earlier this was not possible because the boxfish would eat all these lifeforms in “spawning pool”. You see the result in the gallery. It took 12 hours hard work and the room is still one big mess, but the aquarium is now up and running.
I have also uploaded new video at yellowreef in YouTube.
_
01.01.2010 Almost all fish died because a long blackout. We were on a trip when it happened, so we did not know until we got home. Only 3 gobies, 1 blenny, 2 anemonefish and cauderni survived. Also many inverts died. We are hoping that the tank will stabilaze and maybe some day we will start all over again. Until then, the hobby is on pause for time being.
_
07.12.2010 New video uploaded to YouTube.
_
26.09.2010 There is huge flatworm problem in the main tank. Small flat brownish red worm are multiplying fast and covering live rock and corals. I have tried to suck those worms with tube, when I am changing the water. This tactic has controlled the population but it has not taken care of the problem. I am planning to get some animals to eat those worms soon. Picture of the worms added to gallery.
_
15.05.2010 Tank is now 13 months old. Added 4 pictures to gallery. Replaced “main tank” and “spawning pool” picures.
_
03.06.2010 Added live rock to main tank, spawning pool and sump, because it is possible that salinity-problem reduced diversity of life in the system. Tridacna maxima added to spawning pool. Chelmon rostratus added to main tank. I also got some acropora and stylopora corals from grumpyreefer in exchange for my blue montipora.
The new section to this site, where I tell more about these foods, vitamins, supplemets and all other stuff I pour into system, is still a work in progress.
_
04.05.2010 Updated “main tank”, “spawning pool” and “sump” -sections.
Now I have my new sump up and running. It is divided into 3 sections; refugium, filteration and return pumps. There is a bubble trap between filteration and return pump sections. Refugium (~110 litres) has DSB and at the moment only 3 kg live rock. I am planning to add more live rock soon.
My analog salinity meter has been broken for long time and did not notice this. The aquarium salinity had been 27 ppt. about 6 months. I think that it killed my new Heteractis magnifica. Now I bought very accurate Tunze Condictivity Meter and I have brought the salinity level to 35 ppt. After rasing the sanility to proper level, everything has been better in aquarium. Corals are more open, less algae and etc.
I have started to feed corals and inverts more. I have also started to use different vitamin and nutrient supplements. Some of the corals are growing so fast that soon I will have to frag them. I will create new section to this site, where I tell more about these foods, vitamins, supplemets and all other stuff I pour into system.
I am planning to order Bergias to my spawning pool to eat all aiptasia and maybe get them to spawn!
I am also planning to add 5 - 10 kg live rock to refugium and 5 - 10 kg live rock main tank. I am worried that my long salinity-problem left its mark to micro-organisms and variation of species. Maybe, by adding fresh live rock, system will function better.

01.05.2010 New video added to YouTube. Update of recent developmets coming soon.
_
18.03.2010 Added one picture from new corals to gallery. Picture was taken right after I placed corals into my tank. Every new coral in the picture had been dry for some time because the bags leaked during transport.
_
17.03.2010 I know that I promised to upload new video when shipment arrives from Germany. Now I do not want to do that just yet because the Sea hare has started eat all ugly algae away. I was hoping that algae problem is removed finally when I get my refugium online. Then I will post new, representative video from the reef. At this point it would look like algae collection.
Here is the picture of my new sump; gallery
I will update sump-section now, although it may take few weeks to get the new sump up and running.
_
16.03.2010 Order from Germany arrived 02.03.2010. Temperature of the water inside the bags were around 18 degrees Celsius. 6 bags had leaked all water out, but luckily those were coral-bags. One coral was very dry, but it survived. So, no casualties. Especially Ptereleotris hanae was completely different fish that I had imagined. It was 14cm long adult (I expected 5cm long juvenile) and I must say that it is one good-looking fish.
Here is the final order list:
1x [14397] Ctenochaetus binotatus
1x [12731] Ptereleotris hanae - Blue hana goby
2x [169] Berghia verrucicornis
2x [186] Tripneustes gratilla
1x [18500] Pinctada margaritifera - perl oyster (Originalphoto)
1x [1714] Acropora reddish (Selago?)
1x [1726] Turbinaria peltata (medium size)
1x [1833a] Montipora digitata red (small)
1x [13344] Leptoseris foliosa - LPS
1x [18262] Lobophyllia sp. grün (Originalphoto)
1x [18381] Montipora danae NZ Bali (Originalphoto)
1x [12963] Nassarius vibex - 10 pcs
2x [16783] Strombus luhuanus
1x [123 or 16436] Heteractis magnifica (15-20cm diameter, medium or big)
I have bought also Pseudochromis fridmani, one tubeworm, Dolabella auricularia and 4 pcs of Thor amboinensis. Dolabella auricularia has eaten almost all red candycotton algae from spawning pool. I will put it main tank and hope that boxfish does not eat it!
I have ordered bigger sump. It should be delivered soon. Then I will have refugium in the sump. I have been growing chaetomorpha in spawning pool and there is not enough room.
I have ordered PH/salinity-monitor and heat controller to my cooler.
_
16.02.2010 Added two Montipora sp. to main tank. ProfiLux Dosing Unit Stand-alone 3 is now handeling balling.
_
14.02.2010 All info about tanks updated. Added new video of Mithrax sculptus eating algae. Video is taken, when my algae problem reached its climax. You can find the video at yellowreef in YouTube.

13.02.2010 A lot has happened since my last update.
Rapula has been changed into Clownfish spawning pool. I sold all crabs and shrimps from rapula and replaced them with clownfishes. I also have started to fill this new “spawning pool” with different anemones.
HQI lights has been replaced with T5 lights. Instead of 2×250W HQI + 4×54W T5, I have now only 8×54W T5. I tried 10 x 54W T5 but it was too much for lower light corals. Anemones like this new lightning and now it is easier to see all the details in aquarium. With HQI it was hard to see all the little caves and darker areas due to HQI’s glittering effect. I have been very pleased to this new light.
We started to use BioPellets with Deltec fluidized bed filter and water clarity has improved significantly. I have used them only 1,5 weeks.
Matted Filefish has been moved to spawning pool because it ate all aiptasia in main tank and started to eat BTAs and zoas. I will soon sell it to another hobbyist in Tampere.
I sold Bicolor Blenny to 500 lires tank in Naantali. It started nip montipora, stylopora and pocillopora. Many fist-sized coral died before a catched it. It also started to bully Valenciennea sexguttata.
I have added new fishes and invertibrates; Pseudocheilinus hexataenia, Valenciennea sexguttata, Entacmeae quadricolor and Ophiocoma sp. (orange). I also bought one mystery fish. Shopkeeper did not know what it was and I have not found similar fish from any online store. It looks like red gobiodon but it has hairy stomache and it is sturdier that gobiodons. It is 3 cm long and almost incapable of swimming. It just sits on sand or hangs on bottom rocks. It moves at night, so I have not got any pictures. I call it Perkele-fish, until it is indentified. It is ugly as hell and in every other way a strange fellow.
Live stock order from Germany is on hold due to extremely cold weather. Here is the order list:
1x [315] Halichoeres iridis
1x [14397] Ctenochaetus binotatus
1x [12731] Ptereleotris hanae - Blue hana goby
2x [169] Berghia verrucicornis
2x [186] Tripneustes gratilla
1x [18500] Pinctada margaritifera - perl oyster (Originalphoto)
1x [1714] Acropora reddish (Selago?)
1x [1726] Turbinaria peltata (medium size)
1x [1833a] Montipora digitata red (small)
1x [13344] Leptoseris foliosa - LPS
1x [18262] Lobophyllia sp. grün (Originalphoto)
1x [18381] Montipora danae NZ Bali (Originalphoto)
1x [12963] Nassarius vibex - 10 pcs
2x [16783] Strombus luhuanus
1x [123 or 16436] Heteractis magnifica (15-20cm diameter, medium or big)
I have had problems with red candy cotton algae but now things has started to improve. New algae does not grow anymore and existing ones are slowly dying. I think that there was some wastes absorbed to my old live rock and therefore it has taken long time to get rid of algaes. Algaes started to bloom again when I changed rapula into spawning pool. I had to take all rocks out from rapula to catch all crabs and lumbster living in there. It caused rapid algae growth.
Next Monday I will get profilux 3-canal dosing pump to take care of balling.
I am selling tomorrow Sinularia from main tank.
New pictures in gallery. New videos and pictures coming when delivery arrives from Germany. All info about tanks are going be updated soon.

15.11.2009 Added 3 pictures to gallery. I moved Duncanopsammia axifuga from rapula to main tank. Hopefully Ostracion cubicus does not eat it this time.
_
13.11.2009 Adden new corals to main tank; Pocillopora verrucosa and Sinularia dura. When placing the Pocillopora, I noticed a small coral crab that lives in there. I did not get a good look at it because it was hiding, but I think its basecolor is orange and it has yellow stripes. With some luck, maybe I get a picture of it some day. Pictures in gallery.
I am not sure about 07.11.2009 added coral. It is Scolymia or Cynarina.
_
07.11.2009 Adden new coral to main tank; Scolymia (probably), I will confirm its true name later. Picture is in the gallery.
_
21.10.2009 Here it is, more thorough report about recent developments.
As I mentioned earlier, I added 6 kg of live rock to main tank. Front left corner of the main tank looked stupid because it was empty. Now it has same the kind of “rock-shelf” than the other side and looks a lot better.
I changed also the fluorescent tubes of rapula. It has now 50-50 ratio of 20,000 K and 12,000 K tubes. I think it looks better now, because blue tone highlights corals over the algea.
I bought new corals from other hobbyists around Finland. Those were very good bargains for me, because these corals would have costed at least 10 times more in aquarium-shop. So, I am eternally greatful for these giveaway-corals. New corals in the main tank: Acropora formosa, Acropora aspera, Acropora florida and Seriatopora hystrix. New corals in rapula: Acropora aspera, unknown softcoral and Discosoma cardinalis. I moved Sinularia sp. and Herpolitha limax from main tank to rapula. I can not be 100 % certain about exact last names of Acropora aspera and Acropora florida. Aspera is pink with white tips and Florida is bright yellow with green/pink tips. Acropora formosa is in bad shape, hopefully it gets the green color back and starts to grow.
Check out new pictures in gallery.

20.10.2009 Added 6 kg live rock to main tank. Added many corals to main tank and rapula. I am going to update the situation thoroughly and add new pictures soon.
_
16.10.2009 Few randomly taken pictures added to gallery.
_
12.10.2009 Montipora digitata added to main tank and rapula. Caulastra curvata added to rapula. I had to move Duncanopsammia axifuga to rapula, because yellow boxfish started to eat it. Tridachia crispata was eaten by shrimps and crabs in rapula.
_
26.09.2009 New video added to YouTube.
_
24.06.2009 Added new pictures from yesterdays additions and updated pictures from tanks to gallery. Also added links to habitants and corals linking them into google picture search. Adden algae list to main tank and rapula.
Tridachia crispata has been particularly nice addition to rapula. It has nice detailed patterns on its bright green skin and from far away it looks like wierd leaf. It is also fotosynthetic and that makes it even more cooler! Condylactys gigantea ate its first lunch with great appetite. Its menu consisted vitamin enritched scallop. Mitrax sculptus started immediately eating algae. At least It has the most versitile buffet in rapula!
_
23.09.2009 New creatures added to main tank and rapula; Turbo sp, Cerithium sp, Tridachia crispata, Mitrax sculptus, Condylactys gigantea. New pictures coming soon to gallery.
